Classic album retrospective 1- Napalm Death-Scum
Hello there well i know its been a few days but ive been trying to think of what to write about in my first proper post(not counting my introduction). Well as i said one of the things i will be writing about in my blog will be retrospectives on classic albums which will at the moment be mostly metal. So for my first i have decided to write about the genre -defining "Scum" album from the grindcore pioneers Napalm Death. Enjoy... Without Napalm Deaths "Scum" extreme metal as we know would probabaly not exist. This album - which features two different lineups on each side-defined grindcore with the growled vocals, Discharge-influenced riffing and of course, the blastbeat drumming. Inspired by anarcho punk and death metal, it would inspire countless bands and lead to careers of several of the musicians who played on it with bands such as Godflesh,Carcass and Cathedral. Formed in 1981 by two young punks called Nick Bullen and Miles Ratlidge,Napalm Death began as an anarcho band inspired by Crass, whose compilation album "Bullshit Detector volume 3" landed them their first recording. After that guitarist Justin Broadrick joined and they started to become more influenced by extreme metal. Broadrick came from an industrial background and later go on to form Godflesh and more recently, Jesu. Ratlidge then left and was replaced by Mick Harris and this lineup recorded the A side of "Scum". Harris was the only member to play on the whole album. After Bullen and Broadrick left they were replaced by Jim Whitely on bass, future Cathedral frontman Lee Dorrian on vocals and Carcass guitarist Bill Steer. This left no original memebers by this point. After releasing the album they were supported by legendary Radio 1 DJ John Peel. The album also had a recorded breaking track with the song "You Suffer" which clocks in at just 1 second long, this also lead to tv appearences and a cover story on the NME. The bands lyrics made them recognised as one of the most political bands in the extreme metal genre. However, after the Scum tour Whitely would leave the band and would be replaced by Shane Embury. Eventally all the members who played on "Scum" would leave with Embury being the longest serving memeber to this day.

Introduction
Hello there my name is Nathan Foster. I am 19 years old (nearly 20) and i reside in the small town of Grimsby in the UK. I am formally a journalism student and am now currently unemployed and have decided to start this blog in the hope that people will read it and enjoy it and that it could potentially lead to greater things. The things i will tend to write about will be mainly music orientated although this may change somewhere down the line and i may chose to review films or other mediums or may just feel the need to rant about something that maybe on my mind at the time. Anybody interested in extreme music such as death metal, grindcore, hardcore should suscribe to this blog as i will be aiming to review albums, give retrospective on classic albums and i will potentailly try to give concert reviews(although this may prove dificult as i unfortuneately dont go to as many as i would like). I am rather new to this whole world of blogging so i would appreciate if more experienced bloggers would give me the benifit of the doubt and dont dismiss if i may come across as ametaurish. I have visited this site before although as previously stated have just now joined it for the first time so i will also take the time to read and suscribe other peoples blogs. Thats just about all i have to say so i would urge people to read my blog as i will try and update it as frequently as i can and look forward to hopefully being succesful in this uniqe way of communicating with like minded people
